Sometimes, it’s just a matter of thinking outside the box…or, in this case, the mat!

This is a photo taken by one of our long-time favorite customers while on a trip to Japan.

The beauty and serenity of the image inspired us to create something to honor that feeling. Instead of a traditional frame with a double mat, which would have looked lovely, we took things a bit farther (of course, we did!).

We extended the borders of the photo onto the bottom mat using acrylic paint, leaving the area around the beveled edge unpainted. We then added a mist grey panel onto that same mat to separate the painted area from the inner edge. The idea was to add a bit of depth and the feeling of a floating border surrounding the image.

The focus still remains solely on the photo, but with a little extra something to make people wonder…
